WebDec 12, 2024 · This fish for me was checked off and mailed, but never X'd on the map. So far it's the only one that has done this. If you lose one though, like die with it on your horse, it will return to the area you caught it in so you can go back and catch it again. Did that with the salmon a couple times.

Caught the legendary smallmouth bass, was on my way to Strawberry and got ambushed & died. Fish was no longer crossed out when I respawned so I tried catching it again but was only catching muskies. Took a chance and went back to the spot I died and the fish was on the ground. Once I picked it up it went back to being crossed out on the map.
